§ 3-1-13. Deputy Village President.

  • (A)

    Creation of office: powers and duties. There is hereby created the office of Deputy Village President. The person appointed to such office shall be and is hereby authorized to lawfully perform all functions and duties the Village President is empowered to perform, but only when the Village President is unable to perform same as a result of disability of the Village President or unavailability due to absence from the Village after a reasonable effort to locate the Village President has been made.

    (B)

    Qualifications. No person shall be appointed to the office of Deputy President unless he or she is a duly elected or appointed trustee of the Village of Hoffman Estates.

    (C)

    Appointment. The Deputy Village President shall be appointed by a majority vote of the President and Board of Trustees voting jointly.

    (D)

    Term of office. The term of office of the Deputy President shall commence on the day of appointment and terminate April 30 of any odd-numbered year, unless the office is vacated by removal, which will be done in the same manner as required for appointment, or by the holder of such office no longer qualifying to continue to hold such appointment. In no event shall the term of office of Deputy President extend beyond the term of office of the Village President who made such appointment.

    (E)

    Acting Village President, vacancy. If a vacancy occurs in the position of Village President, the Deputy Village President, shall, for purposes pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/3.1-10-50, serve as Acting Village President until such time as a successor to fill the vacancy has been elected and has qualified.

    (F)

    Bond; oath. The Bond and Oath shall be the same as that required under Section 3-1-2.
